FAQs

  • What is the Health insurance marketplace?

The Health Insurance Marketplace is a new way for those without insurance to  find health care coverage that fits their budgets and their needs. Individuals and families can compare prices, benefits and other important  features before selecting a plan.

One application, one time, provides the opportunity to review every qualified  insurance plan in the area, along with how to get lower costs on monthly  premiums and out-of-pocket expenses.

The Marketplace allows individuals to compare private health plans side-by-side and make an informed choice based on a comparison of prices, benefits and other important features.

  • Who can enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace?

Anyone can apply for insurance through the Marketplace but we focus primarily on helping the uninsured, underinsured, or those who buy their own insurance, to find health care coverage through the Marketplace that fits their budgets and their personal needs.

Individuals can also check to see if they qualify for financial assistance by choosing a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Through the Marketplace, they can receive financial assistance with health insurance.

  • Why is it important to get a quality health plan?

No one plans to get sick or hurt, but most people need medical care at some point. Health coverage helps pay for those unexpected costs and protects the insured person or family from very high expenses. Important benefits of health insurance include free preventive care, like vaccines and check-ups.

Now, no family will be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition like high blood pressure or asthma. No American will have to worry that losing a job will mean that he or she won’t qualify for health coverage.

  • What is healthcare.gov?

HealthCare.gov is the best source for the latest and most accurate information about the Marketplace. For Spanish speaking consumers, CuidadoDeSalud.gov has also been updated and is ready for individuals to start enrolling.

The site has information on how the Health Insurance Marketplace works and what benefits are available, as well as resources, videos and checklists to help individuals, families and small businesses navigate the Marketplace.

  • Thanks to the American Rescue Plan (ARP), coverage is also more affordable than ever, even for those who weren't eligible in the past. You may also qualify for additional tax credits to help lower your monthly premium. Learn more at healthcare.gov.
